When we often say that the size of a penis doesn’t matter, in reality it would be more effective than the only variable that torments the male subconscious. In this context, a very serious study published in the American magazine Sexuality and Culture shows the existence of a connection between penis size and the personality of men as perceived by their sexual partner. The particular basis for interpretation was the increase in “dick picks” during the pandemic, these mostly unsolicited and non-consensual photos of penises that were sent to strangers on the Internet.
The lockdown has led to an explosion in online sexuality
The collapse of social bonds during the health crisis has wiped out any form of modesty for some. In fact, the French Institute of Public Opinion recorded a 25% increase in intimate photos posted online by young people aged 18 to 34 between February 2020 and May 2021. A phenomenon that has piqued the interest of researchers from the psychology department at New Mexico Highlands University and those at Texas Business University. “Due to this increase in digital sexual behavior, the present study aims to understand what assumptions are made about potential romantic or sexual partners from receiving sexually explicit content,” they explain in the introduction.
Men with a large penis are more extroverted than others
To conduct their research, researchers Thomas R. Brooks and Stephen Reysen showed 24 photos of penises (Caucasian and circumcised) to a sample of 106 people, 80% of whom were women. Participants each had to write down which personality trait they thought emerged from the different photos. And the observation is clear: it is the men with the largest penises who have received the most praise and are instinctively perceived as the most attractive and successful. In contrast, people with smaller, thinner penises have been associated with neurotic personalities. “We found that the image of a penis contributes to implicit theory about that person, which includes personality, behavior and other assumed characteristics,” they summarize.
A study that should be treated with caution
But be careful, this study should not be taken literally, otherwise there is a risk of developing even more complexes in men or even requiring surgery to gain a few more centimeters. What the specialists wanted to show above all with this work is the role that social networks play in demonstrating our sexuality. “The big lesson to be learned from this study is that people are judged and evaluated when they share photos of their genitals,” concluded Thomas R.
